Hello and welcome! I’m Kerryn Woods, Melbourne-based personal trainer and online coach, gourmet food lover and busy wife and mum.
After successfully avoiding any unnecessary activity all of my life, I accidentally fell into fitness in my early forties. Nobody was more surprised than me to discover that exercise could be fun and rewarding, or that healthy food didn’t have to consist of a dull and boring “diet”. But I didn’t get there overnight…
I know what it’s like to struggle with my weight. I understand how difficult it can be to fit exercise around family, work and other commitments. I can remember starting many fad diets and finishing few of them. I’ve shed tears in changing rooms when shopping for new clothes. I’ve had health problems directly related to being unfit and overweight.
The turning point for me in losing the weight once and for all was realising that (no matter what the trash mags may say) diets are unrealistic and that exercise is a vital part of any long-term successful strategy.
This is a brief visual timeline that shows where I’ve come from and some of the places I’ve been along the way:
The short version of my story is that I joined a gym, discovered that I loved lifting heavy things, became a member of that odd species, the “morning people”, completed a number of fun runs and cycling events and won a major prize in the 2004 Body-for-LIFE competition. My self-confidence soared, I developed a serious clothes-shopping addiction and my health improved dramatically.
The most rewarding part of my journey was discovering a passion for helping other people to change their lives through exercise and good nutrition. I studied for my Certificates III and IV in Fitness and completed the requirements for registration with Fitness Australia before establishing FitBodies Personal Training in 2005. Since then I’ve helped many clients achieve their goals with a focus on sustainable, permanent change assisted by realistic meal plans and exercise schedules.
I continue to seek new personal challenges, and you can read more about that and my background story on my blog, Fitbody Fifty.
